11/13 to 11/ 16
This week we will be working on multiplication algorithms and using the box method to simplify a multiplication problem.  Students will solve 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication problems.  We will also discuss what happens when we multiply a number with a zero in it and how place value effects a math problem.  PLEASE continue to study basic multiplication facts to increase fluency and accuracy.

I hope everyone is now back into the swing of things and is getting used to the 4th grade schedule!  In Math, homework will consist of a "half" sheet of practice problems.  Currently we are reviewing material covered in 3rd grade along with place value concepts.  It should not take them long to complete the sheet, 5 to 10 minutes at the most.  Also, please continue to practice multiplication facts daily.  Basic facts are the foundation to many of the concepts we will be learning this year in 4th grade.  Your child should be able to answer the facts correctly and fluently.  If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We have really been working hard to learn and follow all of the SPARTY rules.  So far, we have practiced staying Safe and Participating.  This week we will concentrate on Acting Respectfully.  Some examples of acting respectfully are: use appropriate voice level, follow directions and classroom rules, listen when others are speaking, and use kind words and actions.

Welcome to Mrs. Staudenmeier's 4th grade classroom website!  I hope you enjoy your visit! I am very excited for this upcoming school year and I hope you are as well! This site is intended for use by my fourth grade class and their families to help keep everyone updated on our accomplishments throughout the year as well as share important information about our classroom.

Please continue to send any papers from the PTO or office back to school in your child's red "Spartan" folder. This includes t-shirt orders, fundraisers, or any other type of letter from the administration or homeroom teacher. All other subject specific papers should stay in that subject's assigned folder. Reading-Red, Math-Blue, Science-Green, Social Studies-Orange.

Week of 3/12-3/16:

We have started Topic 8, which is "Developing Fluency: Multiplying by 2-Digit Numbers.  Some of the strategies he or she is learning to use include arrays and expanded and standard algorithms.  Homework this week will be from Topic 8.  Please check your child's assignment book for nightly assignments.  We will have a fact test on Monday on all facts 0-12.

2/19/18-Homework for all periods-Math textbook page 168 numbers 15-22

Sunday, February 18, 2018

This week we will be starting Topic 7: Multiplying by 2-Digit Numbers.  Your child will be multiplying larger numbers using arrays, mental math, rounding to estimate, and also using compatible numbers to estimate.  By using estimation in the course of everyday experiences and family activities, you can help your child understand estimation.

Help your child understand that, when shopping, he or she can use estimation to figure out how much an item will cost. For example, if T-shirts cost $12 each, have your child estimate the cost of 4 T-shirts.

Parents,

Thank you so much for supporting this year’s North Schuylkill Spartan Fun Run! The program was a huge success, and I know everyone had so much fun! There’s just one more thing left to do.

We need your help collecting all our pledges. As a class, we raised $1864.50 - our goal is to collect 100% of all pledges by 02/01/2018.

Pledges can be paid by credit card online on funrun.com, cash, or check.

All sponsors that included their email address when making a pledge will receive an email reminder and instructions to pay their pledge. Please reach out to those sponsors who did NOT include their email address to let them know they can send cash or check to you, which will then be sent to school in your child’s collection envelope (coming home soon)!

Finally, please encourage your student to thank all their sponsors for helping our school!

Thank you again for your support! Let me know if you have questions.

Parents,
Thank you again for supporting our school through the North Schuylkill Spartan Fun Run! Our goal is to raise $10,000 for field trips, education programs, and fun day, and we need your help!

This weekend we are issuing a special challenge. Visit funrun.com to see the bonus prize your child can earn simply by getting a total of $2 per lap in new pledges (or $60 in flat donations) this weekend only.
And if you’re looking for an easy way to ask for a pledge, create your very own Student Star Video by uploading a photo of your student to funrun.com. It’s a fun movie trailer starring your child! You can share it on email or social media to ask for a pledge.
Thank you again for helping our class!
PS - If you haven’t registered your child on funrun.com, search "North Schuylkill."

This week we began Topic 5-Multiplying by 1-Digit Numbers.  We are also practicing our 0-9 facts.  In this topic we will learn methods to multiply two-and three-digit numbers by one-digit numbers.  By looking for patterns in multiplication facts, he or she can also multiply multiples of 10 by one-digit numbers using mental math.  Here are some sample patterns that your child is learning:

      4 x 5 = 20                        6 x 8 = 48
      4 x 50 = 200                     6 x 80 = 480
      4 x 500 = 2,000                6 x 800 = 4,800

You can look for homework this week on Topic 5, Lessons 3, 4, and 5.  Also, fact corrections will be due on Wednesday and we will have a fact quiz that day as well.
